Reid and his brother Wynn live on a 40 acre farm that their parents and grandparents co-own. They raise Parson Russell Terriers, horses, cows and chickens. They have been actively showing all 4 species in 4H since they were 6 years old. They are both active in travel hockey, football, crafts, baking and photography. Reid 13, is quiet and studious, earning straight A’s as a student athlete this year. He is also active in band and plays the saxophone. He is currently ranked number one Junior in Parsons. He can be goofy when with his dog show mentor. They have fun together.

Wynn is 10 and very outgoing. He loves all people and animals. They both are new to showing Parsons and AKC. Wynn’s prospective

partner is only 3 months old named Runamok Good Vibrations-Nyxie. For now he shows his brother’s 11 month puppy Runamok She Talks to Angels-Halo, when he gets a chance! Both boys thoroughly enjoy showing. We have met lots of kind, helpful people that are truly interested in helping them to be successful.

Grandma especially likes the special time she gets to spend with them. Animals keep them grounded in the natural world and they know that a dog can be a partner. Dog shows also give the boys a chance to help others. They enjoy showing others’ dogs in the breed ring. It is a win / win situation because the other exhibitors get a helping hand and the boys get valuable experience.

We are all looking forward to representing the Parson breed and PRTAA and are thankful for the opportunity to be members.

*Proud Grandparents Mary Anne & Steve Tompkins have been longtime members of the PRTAA. Welcome Reid and Wynn Betts!

The AKC Junior Handler Program, also known as Junior Showmanship, is designed for young people to learn how to handle, present, and care for dogs in a competitive environment while developing sportsmanship, responsibility, and teamwork skills.

The AKC Junior Handler Program allows children and teens aged 9 to 18 to develop dog handling skills, compete in Junior Showmanship and earn recognition and awards across AKC events.

Participants are judged on their handling abilities, not the dog’s quality, which emphasizes skill development and personal growth.

Dog Requirements: Dogs must be at least 6 months old, physically sound, up-to-date on vaccinations, and registered with the AKC, PAL, or FSS programs. AKC developed this program in order to encourage our youth to become involved in dog showing and ensure our sport continues.

This is Payton and she shows Parson Russell Terriers. We are proud to say Payton's breed of choice in Junior Handling is the Parson Russell Terrier. Although she does help show other breeds and helps some top handlers show in the regular breed ring, Payton is well known among many at the shows. Payton is currently 9 years old and is seen here showing "Cash" who is 6 months old. She has been showing since she was 4 (!) and has placed in all breed groups with a Parson winning a Group 4.

Payton puts her heart and soul into showing and wishes to be a handler when she grows up. As of now her ranking in Junior Handlers is in the top ten for 2026.

We Parson Russell Terrier lovers are proud to have Junior representation in the breed ring with our Parson's and can only hope for more participation. We are all proud of Payton's accomplishments. Thank you Payton!
